Nintendo appears to be returning to the holiday spotlight with its remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The company has not announced a release date, but late October or early December seem likeliest given the fall release landscape and how Nintendo is positioning the game.

For years Nintendo treated the final quarter as a major moment, then shifted toward summer launches and quieter winters. Autumn also became the regular season for Pokémon, while the company filled year-ends with ports, spinoffs, or little at all during the Wii U era and much of the Switch life so far.

Switch showed that Nintendo doesn’t need a holiday blockbuster to succeed — Super Mario Odyssey landed in late October and performed strongly — but the Ocarina remake feels different. It could be another polished rework of the N64 original, and even if it’s effectively a filler, it matters more now: Switch 2 hardware and software sales are climbing, and Nintendo still expects to sell more than 16 million units.
