Obsidian lead: Baldur's Gate 3 and Clair Obscur prove RPGs remain vibrant
Chris Parker, Obsidian Entertainment veteran and director of Grounded 2, says the roleplaying genre still has plenty of life. "Sometimes it looks a little tired, sometimes it looks like it needs a little bit of a freshening up, but then something comes along and shows me that RPGs are as vibrant and exciting a genre now as they have ever been," he told GamesRadar+.
He pointed to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Baldur's Gate 3 as recent examples of that energy. Both games stand out; they are the only titles to have swept all five major Game of the Year awards uninterrupted. Parker also acknowledged Obsidian's own contributions.
Both Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, he said, "are super fun and great experiences, and brought something to the genre." Looking ahead, he expressed confidence in the genre's future.
