On its 25th day at the domestic box office Obsession earned $4.2 million, while Endgame and Star Wars: The Force Awakens pulled in $3.2 million and $3.1 million respectively, and the film’s global total sits at $234.5 million.

The result highlights how a modestly budgeted horror movie can reach large audiences through storytelling and word-of-mouth, while tentpole superhero films often require six-figure marketing and production budgets. Big-budget franchise fare commonly carries production costs north of $100 million and faces fatigue and a shortage of original approaches.

Indie horror has dominated much of 2026. Earlier releases such as Scream 7 reached $214 million, and A24’s Backrooms has grossed $221 million, making Obsession and Backrooms the year’s top horror titles.
