If you own a Switch, charge the console and connect it to the internet: the latest patch, version 22.5.0, addresses a long-running problem that dates back to the system’s 2017 launch.

The Nintendo eShop has been notorious for sluggish, glitchy navigation that made browsing feel needlessly slow. The pauses were brief and the store remained functional, but compared with near-instant loading on other platforms the storefront often felt frustratingly sluggish.

Official patch notes are terse, saying the eShop’s layout has been redesigned and that "The Nintendo eShop color will now reflect the theme color if your theme in System Settings is set to Basic Dark." In practice the storefront now runs much more smoothly; a BlueSky user, Daniel Vuckovic, shared a short video demonstrating the improvement.

With the performance fixes in place, buying new releases on the original Switch—titles such as Final Fantasy Resonance or Rhythm Heaven Groove—should no longer be hampered by laggy menus.
