Developer Nine Dots Studio announced on Steam that survival RPG Outward 2 has been delayed from a July 2026 release into 2027. Nine Dots CEO and Outward 2 creative director Guillaume Boucher-Vidal wrote, "I apologize that we couldn’t give you the game you guys deserve on time." The release date on Steam now simply says "2027." The game has been in open beta since June 7 and had looked on track for an early access launch this summer.

A writer who played a recent build said they had a fine time but encountered rough edges; early access titles commonly show issues, and that writer only spent a couple of hours in the build, so deeper playtests may have revealed more serious problems. Boucher-Vidal said the studio listened to beta feedback and decided that sticking to the original plan risked delivering a product that might not satisfy expectations.
