Nintendo Switch Sports Resort coming to Switch 2, adds thumb wrestling
Nintendo is returning to its motion-control sports series with Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, the first entry exclusive to the Switch 2. Announced during Tuesday's Nintendo Direct, the game is due Oct. 22 and takes players to the vacation setting of Wuhu Island, familiar from 2009's Wii Sports Resort.
The title includes 12 sports: five returning from 2022's Switch Sports — tennis, volleyball, basketball, bowling and golf — alongside boxing, table tennis, archery, skateboarding, power cruising (jetski), flying a prop plane and thumb wrestling. A jump rope minigame is also included.
Skateboarding and thumb wrestling are all-new additions for the series. The franchise began with 2006's Wii Sports, a pack-in game designed to showcase the Wii Remote; that original featured tennis, baseball, golf, boxing and bowling and sold over 82 million copies, placing it among the top five best-selling games of all time.
