On June 5 at Summer Game Fest, director Naoki Hamaguchi gave the first proper look at Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the third and final instalment in Square Enix’s remake trilogy. Two trailers—a reveal and a gameplay trailer—run for over seven minutes and are packed with callbacks to the original 1997 release.

If you haven’t played that game, beware: the footage contains many spoilers. Some clear changes stood out. Sephiroth is voiced by Travis Willingham in Revelation, replacing Tyler Hoechlin; Hamaguchi said a “scheduling conflict” kept Hoechlin from returning, and Willingham confirmed his casting on X.

The in-game party portraits deliberately reference the original FF7 artwork, with some near-identical recreations such as Yuffie’s and small differences like Cid’s missing cigarette. The trailers also hint at story beats and structure. The classic snowboarding minigame that follows Aerith’s death in the 1997 game does not appear in the trailers, which may mean it’s been trimmed or will open Revelation.
