Nightdive's remaster of Thief: The Dark Project was revealed at the PC Gaming Show. The studio, which acquitted itself with last year's System Shock 2 remaster, will handle this return to a bona fide classic. The reveal offered only brief glimpses, but those glimpses suggest Nightdive has aimed to preserve Thief's original atmosphere.

There are no garishly uprezzed textures or overly bump‑mapped guard models—just subtle tweaks to make the game work on modern screens. You can check it out on Steam. I'm curious what changes Nightdive will make to gameplay. The System Shock 2 remaster added controller support, balance tweaks and a repaired multiplayer mode, so similar adjustments are possible; with console versions on the way, controller support seems likely.

Part of the writer hopes the Downwind Thieves' Guild becomes less nightmarish, but mostly they'd prefer it remain as labyrinthine as ever.
