Nicolas Jackson to remain at Chelsea as Xabi Alonso assesses squad
Nicolas Jackson has decided to stay at Chelsea this summer to try to prove his worth to new head coach Xabi Alonso. The Senegalese forward will return to Stamford Bridge after a productive loan season with Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. Jackson is currently with Senegal at the World Cup but is delaying any move until later in the transfer window to give himself a better chance of making an impact.
Alonso plans to assess the whole squad in pre-season before identifying which players fit his long-term project. At Bayern, Jackson helped the club win the Bundesliga while operating as a rotation option behind Harry Kane. The Bavarian side held a £70m option to buy but decided against triggering it, so he will return to Chelsea this pre-season.
Interest has been linked from Juventus, Napoli and Newcastle, and Jackson’s representatives have been gauging options across Europe.
