Nick Reiner seeks $1.5M trust payout to cover legal costs
Nick Reiner filed a petition seeking access to a $1.5 million trust he says was to pay out half when he turned 30 in 2023 and the remainder at 35. He is pursuing the funds while facing murder charges in the deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner. The petition says the money is needed to cover legal fees and to place funds into his commissary account for basic items while incarcerated.
It argues the distributions are non‑discretionary and that the trustee may not condition payout on a subjective assessment of how Nick would use the funds. Nick, who the filing notes has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, alleges the trustee has offered a shifting series of excuses and raised unsubstantiated concerns about his competence.
The court documents state there has been no judicial declaration of incompetence nor written determinations from two licensed physicians, and that an irrevocable trust only allows modification of the manner of distribution for an incompetent beneficiary.
