The next Lego movie is a Toy Story 4 reunion for Keanu Reeves
Keanu Reeves is in talks to lead a live-action hybrid Lego movie, reuniting him with director Josh Cooley. The two worked together on Toy Story 4, where Reeves voiced the daredevil toy Duke Caboom, a parody of an Evel Knievel figure. Deadline reported that Universal developed the new Lego project with Reeves in mind after not greenlighting other Lego scripts since acquiring the rights in 2020.
Bringing Cooley aboard helped secure Reeves, and the pair’s previous outing was a major success: Toy Story 4 made over $1 billion at the box office. Previous Lego films have had mixed fortunes. The Lego Movie from 2014 earned more than $470 million, its 2019 sequel underperformed financially but remained popular with viewers, and The Lego Batman Movie was a hit.
Unlike those largely animated pictures, Reeves and Cooley’s film will mix live-action and animation, though plot details have not been revealed.
