Newcastle sign goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen in €28.5m deal
Newcastle United have reached an agreement with Stade de Reims to sign goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen in a €28.5 million deal. The 20-year-old has signed a four-year contract and is set to join Eddie Howe's side during the summer transfer window. Chelsea and Real Madrid had shown interest in the France youth international.
The move forms part of Newcastle's planning for their goalkeeping future. Nick Pope, who celebrated his 34th birthday in April, remains first choice, but the club wanted a younger option to develop under him. Newcastle chose not to activate the permanent clause in Aaron Ramsdale's loan from Southampton, creating a vacancy Jaouen is expected to fill.
Jaouen gained prominence during a 2024–25 loan at USL Dunkerque, helping them to the Coupe de France semi-finals and a narrow promotion push from Ligue 2. On returning to Reims he became the established number one after the club's relegation, and his performances this season reinforced his reputation as a future international.
