The MCU's new X-Men film is officially in development and Marvel appears to be starting fresh rather than tying the project to earlier movies. Writer Lee Sung Jin said Marvel Studios is allowing him and director Jake Schreier to 'take a big swing,' contrasting the reboot's loose parameters with the tighter constraints the studio faced on Thunderbolts.

Sung Jin described a creative process focused on character and team dynamics, drawing inspiration from the early Chris Claremont comics and their soapy, character-driven beats. He added that he and the filmmakers have been 'blue-sky' brainstorming with Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito closely involved in the sessions.

Feige has also signaled the film will skew younger, calling it 'very youth-oriented, focused and cast movie.' There is growing speculation that Spider-Man: Brand New Day could introduce Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, though the project is expected to rely on a cast of young or relatively unknown actors.
