Supergirl, directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Noguiera, draws on Tom King’s Woman of Tomorrow. The film follows Kara Zor‑El (Milly Alcock) celebrating her 23rd birthday and encountering Ruthye Marye Knoll (Eve Ridley), who seeks revenge against Krem of the Yellow Hills (Matthias Schoenaerts).

Jason Momoa joins the new DC Universe as Lobo, a part he has long called his dream role after his run as Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe. His screen time in Supergirl is not expected to be large, but the role should set him up for further appearances as the iconic Czarnian bounty hunter.

Warner Bros. and DC Studios released a 50‑second clip that gives the best look yet at Momoa’s Lobo. In the bar scene, Kara and Ruthye sit when Lobo walks in; Kara tells Ruthye he is "an immortal with a god complex" who "killed off his entire planet." Lobo plays up a menacing persona while talking to the bartender, then admits he is lying and cackles after knocking back a drink.
