Valve’s Steam Controller sold out in less than an hour on its May 4 launch. The $100 device was restocked with a reservation system to curb scalpers, but the company now warns buyers that new orders won’t be fulfilled until 2027 at the earliest. Valve says it "quickly saw that initial demand exceeded our expectations," and that the reservation system has "(hopefully) cut down on the headaches on the customer side" while helping them plan.

New reservations now show an expected fulfillment window; a reservation made today will display "2027." Existing reservations can be checked and break down into three windows: By September 2026; By December 2026; and In 2027, with "additional information on specific timing to come." The strong demand is understandable.

The 2026 controller is an improvement on the previous model: it "may look ridiculous," but the two trackpads allow for mouse-like control of PC gaming via your thumbs, and the device is essentially a Steam Deck with the screen removed.
