New John Wick Spin-Off 'Caine' Adds Mason Thames

Production has begun on Caine, the John Wick spin-off centered on Donnie Yen’s blind hitman. Filming follows a Lionsgate CinemaCon presentation last year that announced several new entries in the franchise. Yen directs and stars after his scene-stealing turn in John Wick: Chapter 4.

Mason Thames has signed on, joining Yen and previously announced cast members Rina Sawayama and Darce Montgomery. Sawayama will reprise Akira, whose post-credits scene in Chapter 4 set up a vendetta against Caine; details about Thames’ character and the film’s plot are being kept under wraps.

Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee serve as executive producers, and Keanu Reeves is also attached as a producer, though his on-screen involvement has not been confirmed. Mattson Tomlin wrote the screenplay. Caine was freed from the High Table at the end of Chapter 4, and the spin-off could follow him into conflict with the organization similar to the mainline films.
