Netflix's The God of the Woods Moves Forward with Full Cast
Netflix is adapting Liz Moore's slow-burn mystery The God of the Woods, which spent 38 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and was hailed as one of 2025's best crime novels. Sony Pictures Television acquired the adaptation rights after the book's release, and Netflix greenlit the series last December; production has since ramped up and Tudum confirmed the cast is complete, with Tracy Letts and Lola Kirke joining Nell Fisher, Lynden Miles Ley, Benjamin Walker, Ella Rubin, John Gallagher Jr., Damon Gupton and Susannah Perkins.
The ensemble is led by Maya Hawke and Kerry Condon, who is known for roles in Rome, Better Call Saul and Train Dreams. Set in the Adirondacks of Upstate New York, the story centers on the disappearance of siblings Barbara (Fisher) and Bear (Miles Ley) Van Laar.
Barbara vanishes 15 years after Bear, and locals suspect the Van Laars while some fear convicted murderer Jacob Sluiter (Gallagher Jr.) was responsible.
