Netflix Superhero Series Tops Rebooted Action Thriller
Netflix's new superhero limited series The Wonderfools debuted on May 15 and has quickly become a standout on the platform. Based on an unpublished Stan Lee concept originally called "The B-Team," the show has logged 7,900,000 views and 74,800,000 hours viewed, making it the second most-watched non-English series on Netflix.
Critics have given it a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences rated it 96% on the Popcornmeter. The action-meets-comedy series, created by Kang Eun-kyung, follows a band of outsiders: a mid-20s trainwreck with a terminal heart condition who dies and returns with teleportation and a super-powered heart; a mild-mannered civil servant with telekinesis; a husband whose lies stick to whatever he touches; and an imposing pushover who gains super strength only when his feelings are hurt.
Reviewers noted that the fights look good and that characterization and emotion are not sacrificed for the sake of action.
