Netflix recently added Lawman: Bass Reeves, a western executive-produced by Taylor Sheridan and created and written by Chad Feehan. The series, which stars David Oyelowo and tells a fictional story involving the historical Bass Reeves, the first Black U.S. Marshal, debuted on Paramount+ three years ago before arriving on Netflix earlier this month.

After only a few days on the streamer, the show has climbed the charts. It sits sixth on Netflix’s US weekly ranking and is the fifth most popular show globally this week, while Michael Jackson: The Verdict holds the number one spot in both the US and global charts.

Audience response has been strong among those who watched the series: Lawman: Bass Reeves has about 500 user reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and a 93% user rating, alongside a 79% critics’ score. Weak viewership in its first season may have harmed the show’s renewal prospects, and it has not yet been picked up for a second season.
