Netflix Developing Sci‑Fi Thriller The Long Now
Netflix is developing a new sci‑fi thriller series titled The Long Now from Semi Chellas. The streamer won a competitive bidding war for the project, which lists Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan of Aggregate Films as executive producers. The official logline frames a race against time: "A man has seven hours to solve his own murder with the reluctant help of his estranged ex.
A propulsive thriller that explores the value of time and asks, What would you do if you had one day to live?" Chellas will serve as showrunner after writing and producing Emmy‑nominated episodes for Mad Men, The Romanoffs and The Audacity. The Audacity scored 79% on Rotten Tomatoes and was renewed for a second season before its debut; Chellas has also written the films Picture Claire, Ophelia and American Women.
Casting has not been announced, though Bateman's involvement could signal he may play the protagonist; he won an Emmy for directing Ozark and most recently co-starred with Jude Law in Black Rabbit and appeared in HBO's DTF St.
