Netflix's Sakamoto Days: A John Wick‑Style Action Anime
Sakamoto Days channels the John Wick premise: a legendary hitman leaves the life for a quiet family existence, but when old enemies return he must defend his new life — with a twist. The assassin isn’t allowed to kill, so he confronts foes using creative, non‑lethal methods.
Based on Yuto Suzuki’s manga, the story was adapted into an anime by TMS Entertainment and released in two parts on Netflix in 2025 (U.S. exclusive). The series was a global streaming success and picked up several nominations at the 2026 Crunchyroll Anime Awards; its Arabic dub won for Tariq Obaid’s performance as Taro Sakamoto, while Best New Series went to Gachiakuta.
One season of 22 episodes is available to stream now. The opening episode flashes back to Sakamoto’s days as the deadliest hitman and explains the emotional reason he chose a peaceful life; years later he’s put on “dad weight” and runs a convenience store with his wife, only to face a bounty that forces him to protect his family and a protégé without killing.
