Variety has detailed plans for a live-action Netflix adaptation of Atlus’s Persona. Production company 21 Laps, known for Stranger Things, and game-focused studio Story Kitchen are said to be substantially involved. Christopher Monfette is named as writer and showrunner, and among seven executive producers is Sega’s Toru Nakahara.

Persona 5 has been a major success, with the core game and Persona 5 Royal selling 10.46 million copies as of August 2025. The title has appeared across three console generations since its 2016 launch and spawned five spin-offs: Persona 5 Strikers, Persona 5 Tactica, Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight, Persona 5: The Phantom X and Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth, alongside remakes of Persona 3 and Persona 4.

There have already been several screen adaptations: Persona 5 received an anime series from 2018 to 2019, Persona 4 had one in 2011, and a Persona 3 anime miniseries also exists. The wider Shin Megami Tensei universe began as a novel trilogy, and crossmedia promotion has long been part of the franchise.
