Netflix Officially Confirms 'War Machine 2' Starring Alan Ritchson
Netflix has confirmed a sequel is in the works for War Machine, the Alan Ritchson-led sci-fi action film that premiered in early March as a co-production with Lionsgate. The first film’s ambiguous ending left room to expand the story, and its 139 million views have landed it on Netflix’s Most Popular Films list.
Patrick Hughes, who co-wrote and directed the original, said he "did genuinely make it and wrote it as a standalone" and called it "cool as f**k," noting there were internal conversations with Netflix about the open-ended conclusion before the decision to continue the story.
The follow-up remains in very early pre-production with no cast announced. Hughes said he wants to "keep the good times rolling" and is "pinching myself every day," teasing an unexpected continuation that will expand the world while defying expectations—"I've got an absolute banger.
