Netflix's New No. 1: Animated Biblical Musical David Scores 98% Verified Hot

David, an animated biblical musical from Angel Studios, has become Netflix's new No. 1 title after arriving on the platform on June 3. The family-friendly film holds a 98% Verified Hot audience rating and a 79% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie, which retells the biblical story of a young shepherd chosen by God who faces the Philistine warrior Goliath, opened in theaters on December 19, 2025.

It set a record for the highest weekend debut for an animated biblical film with $22 million, finished second behind Avatar: Fire and Ash, and went on to gross $87.5 million worldwide against a $60 million budget. Brent Dawes and Phil Cunningham directed, and the cast includes Phil Wickham, Brandon Engman, Asim Chaudhry, Miri Mesika and Mick Wingert; the feature continues the five-part miniseries Young David (2023–2024).
