Netflix's Ghostbusters: Night Shift Is a Prequel

Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation revealed the first look at Ghostbusters: Night Shift during the 2026 Annecy International Film Festival, confirming the animated series is a prequel due to stream on Netflix in 2027. The concept art shifts away from the franchise’s Saturday-morning cartoon aesthetic toward a more stylized, cinematic presentation.

One image shows a single proton-pack-wielding hero facing a supernatural threat, while another depicts a larger team moving through New York with illuminated proton packs. Set in New York City in 1994, the series takes place five years after the events of Ghostbusters II and bridges the gap to the modern legacy films.

The logline describes a new wave of supernatural terror that forces a group of scrappy, untrained New Yorkers—partly responsible for the problem—to don proton packs and confront the threat.
