Netflix Finds Global Hit with Thai Legal Thriller 'The Evil Lawyer'
Netflix’s latest non-English breakout is The Evil Lawyer, an eight-episode Thai crime thriller that arrived on the service June 11. The story follows Mek, a young lawyer falsely accused of murder, and Jittri, a ruthless defense attorney who exploits legal loopholes as they navigate a corrupt system and hunt the conspiracy that framed him.
Starring Nat Kitcharit as Mek and Rhatha Phongam as Jittri, the series debuted the week of June 8–16 as the fifth most popular non-English show on Netflix with 1.7 million views and 11.5 million hours watched. Critics have responded strongly: the show earned a rare 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes among critics.
Sarah Musnicky called it “food for thought,” Randy Myers praised its shifts from courtroom theatrics to serpentine backstories, Pramit Chatterjee labeled it “totally unpredictable,” and Lucinda Everett highlighted its “well paced and well shot” action and playful time-freeze segments.
