Neon Odyssey smashes Kickstarter record, becomes most-funded TTRPG
Neon Odyssey, the latest project from popular actual play group Avantris Entertainment, raised more than $3 million on its first day and surpassed $15.2 million in 30 days, becoming the most-funded TTRPG Kickstarter ever. Rather than pitch "D&D with lasers," the team built a full science-fantasy space opera with synthwave and hopeful cyberpunk aesthetics, drawing on Star Wars and Cowboy Bebop.
Previous attempts to adapt the fantasy tabletop game, such as Spelljammer, proved less successful. The campaign offers three large books totaling over 1,400 pages, with new options for D&D 5.5e including more than 40 subclasses, 30 unique species and numerous space monsters.
The official AMV trailer has surpassed 2.5 million views. "Honestly, this is hard to wrap our heads around," said Avantris Entertainment Co-Founder Mikey Gilder.
