NDIS overhaul faces delay as Coalition and Greens may team up to slow passage
The Greens want Labor to halt plans to rush cuts to the national disability insurance scheme and are urging a longer Senate inquiry. That opens the possibility of the Greens and the Coalition teaming up to extend separate inquiries into both the NDIS changes and tax proposals, a move that could delay the government’s aim to pass the bills before the end of June.
Greens MPs are inclined to support changes to negative gearing, capital gains tax and family trusts and voted for the tax legislation in the lower house on Thursday, but senior party figures say the government has not made the case for rushing the measures. The shadow treasurer, Tim Wilson, said the Coalition would seek "maximum leverage" to scrutinise the tax changes and did not rule out seeking Greens’ support for a longer inquiry.
