Narnia: The Magician's Nephew to get wide theatrical rollout before Netflix
Netflix has confirmed that Sony Pictures will handle international distribution for Narnia: The Magician's Nephew, a move that marks a shift in the streamer’s theatrical strategy. The film represents Netflix’s first wide and extended theatrical release, departing from the platform’s usual streaming-first premieres and reflecting the companies’ existing Pay-1 relationship.
The Magician's Nephew opens in theaters on February 12, 2027, and will arrive on Netflix on April 2, 2027 — 59 days after its theatrical debut. The release was pushed into 2027 following six weeks of production delays; the film had originally been slated for a November IMAX launch followed by a Christmas streaming debut.
The later date should allow more time for post-production and visual effects. The story is the chronological first installment in C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia, a prequel that explores the creation of Narnia and the origins of the White Witch, the lamppost, and the wardrobe.
