My eight-year-old was refused a UK passport
A Briton living in Switzerland says her three children hold British and Swiss nationality. When they found out that dual nationals who live overseas must now hold a British passport to enter the UK, they applied so the children could continue visiting relatives in England.
More than three months later they describe a nightmare with HM Passport Office. They say they provided all required documents, including three different birth certificates for each child (British, Swiss and a certified translation), spent countless hours on online helplines and nearly £800 on fees, translations and postage.
Despite that, the youngest child’s application was refused, even though his siblings’ were accepted on the strength of the same documents. HMPO asked for antenatal records from his birth eight years ago and passports valid at the time of his conception, which have since expired and been replaced.
