Muni Long had a double lung transplant after doctors gave her one week to live
Grammy winner Muni Long revealed she underwent a double lung transplant six months ago after doctors told her she had one week to live. The 37-year-old spoke about the procedure on Good Morning America, saying the decision came after a rapid decline in her health.
Her problems began while she was on the road with Brandy and Monica’s 2025 The Boy Is Mine Tour, when she developed pneumonia on top of a prior lupus diagnosis. Long said she “barely made it” through two songs at her final show before leaving early, then traveled home for Thanksgiving and “woke up in the hospital” where doctors told her she needed surgery.
Faced with hospice or a transplant, Long said her first worry was her voice, but thinking of her 3-year-old son, Tatum, helped her choose surgery. She emphasized that quality of life came first: “I can’t sing if I’m not here.” Now, six months after the transplant, Long said she is doing well with no symptoms or infections.
