MTG reveals 81 cards from Marvel Super Heroes set
Magic: The Gathering’s Marvel Super Heroes set arrives this month, and 81 cards from across Marvel’s history have been revealed. Designers did not follow a single template for the set, which led to some unusual card designs alongside a pair of new mechanics and returns of older ones.
The new Power-up mechanic can be paid when you cast a creature or later for more mana, letting cards like Thanos potentially remove half the board. Teamwork lets you tap creatures to pay for extra spell effects; the two-mana instant Hulk Smash can either destroy an artifact or have a creature deal damage equal to its power to an opponent’s creature, or do both if you pay the Teamwork cost by tapping creatures with combined power of at least four.
Sagas are back to tell stories such as The Coming of Galactus and World War Hulk, and a new enchantment type called Plan gains counters before being sacrificed — for example, Doom Reigns Supreme can let you play two of an opponent’s cards if enough villain cards enter play.
