MrBeast, James Patterson reveal release for thriller

MrBeast (aka Jimmy Donaldson) has co-written his first book with James Patterson. The Most Dangerous Games arrives on Sept. 1 and has been described as “the book event of the year,” imagining Donaldson’s YouTube stunt empire as an even more dystopian social construct.

In the book’s world, one hundred players face off in a ruthless, high-stakes competition with everything on the line. The reward is the chance to save humanity — and one billion dollars — and across brutal environments and relentless challenges, survival becomes the only rule.

Patterson’s prolific, collaborative process — beginning with long outlines and working with co-authors while he shapes tone, pacing and plot — mirrors Donaldson’s own reliance on teams to pull off outlandish projects. It’s unclear how the two divided the work on The Most Dangerous Games, though Patterson may have done more of the writing while Donaldson contributed ideas.
