Movies that made $1 billion at the box office
Hollywood runs on the box office. For more than a century, filmmakers have drawn global audiences with stories that compel repeat visits to theaters, and a growing list of titles has reached the rare $1 billion mark worldwide. Marvel films, Disney animation, and James Cameron projects appear frequently on that list.
Recent milestones include "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie," which became the first $1 billion earner of 2026, and "Jurassic World Dominion," which crossed the threshold after more than three months in theaters. Christopher Nolan’s "The Dark Knight" broke several box-office records on its way to joining the billion-dollar club and helped set expectations for modern superhero releases.
Animated and live-action Disney outings have been especially prominent. Tim Burton’s "Alice In Wonderland" was only the sixth film ever to hit $1 billion when it did in 2010. "Zootopia" earned both an Oscar and blockbuster status, while sequels like "Finding Dory" and hits such as "Despicable Me 3" also cleared the mark.
