Moukoko rescues FC Copenhagen after difficult season
Three and a half years after his World Cup debut, Youssoufa Moukoko finished a difficult season in Denmark with a decisive moment. He produced a composed five-metre backheel in stoppage time to make it 2-1 against Brøndby, then struck again in stoppage to seal a 3-1 win and send Copenhagen into the Conference League second qualifying round.
Moukoko, usually reticent on social media, shared the moment afterwards. Copenhagen struggled for much of the campaign. The reigning double winners finished seventh after the main round, dropped into the relegation play-offs for the first time and won only eight of 22 matches.
Moukoko featured in 18 of those matches and managed three goals during the main round as injuries and form blunted his progress; he admitted last autumn, "I know that's not my level," and said "My body wasn't ready for the professional game yet." A loan to Nice in 2024/25 failed to restore momentum, with a spell sidelined from early February to the end of the campaign.
