Playstack says the open beta demo for Mortal Shell 2 was downloaded 250,000 times over the weekend. Developer Cold Symmetry called the response "incredible," adding that seeing new players and longtime fans dive in, share feedback, and get excited means a lot to the team.

The studio describes the beta — which contains the game's prologue and "an early section" of its open world — as just a "glimpse" of the full experience. Cold Symmetry says it's already acting on player feedback, "fixing bugs, tightening the experience, and carrying those improvements into the full release." Early reception on Steam and Reddit has been positive; one r/soulslikes poster wrote, "I didn't like the first game, but the sequel plays SOOOO much better." Mortal Shell 2 does not have a specific release date yet but is planned for this year.

The open beta remains available on Steam and is around 55GB.
