Morgan Rogers linked to Barcelona and Real Madrid; Villa warned off Gabriel Jesus
Andy Townsend says Morgan Rogers has the ceiling to play for the world’s biggest clubs, naming Barcelona and Real Madrid after the 23-year-old impressed since arriving at Aston Villa. Rogers has been praised for his power and versatility and has also emerged as a target for Premier League champions Arsenal.
Townsend added that Rogers’ showing for England at the World Cup under Thomas Tuchel could push his valuation beyond Villa’s reach, opening the door to interest from teams such as Paris Saint-Germain. He suggested a strong international summer could make it hard for Villa to refuse very large offers.
At the same time, Townsend warned Villa off a move for Gabriel Jesus despite a reported £20 million price tag. While he commended Jesus’s work rate and experience as a five-time Premier League winner, Townsend said persistent injury problems make the signing a risky use of funds.
