Capcom announced last night at Summer Game Fest that Monster Hunter Wilds is in development for the Nintendo Switch 2. There is no release date or window yet, and more details are expected in the months ahead. The Switch 2 news follows the reveal of Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendence, the game's first Iceborne-sized expansion.

Ascendence introduces multiple new and returning monsters, a new weapon, tricks, and a region that appears to be a collection of floating islands in the clouds; it is due sometime in 2027, and a Switch 2 port might arrive around the same time. Players worry whether Wilds will run better on Switch 2 than it did on PC.

The PC launch suffered poor optimization and spent a year in the "Overwhelmingly Negative" pit of Steam reviews, though multiple patches earlier this year improved performance. Capcom says it is learning from that debacle to address potential "performance challenges" going forward.
