Bloodborne, the PlayStation 4-exclusive soulslike, can run at 120 FPS on PlayStation hardware—but only on a modded PlayStation 5.

Players with powerful PCs have been able to hit 120 FPS using the PS4 emulator ShadPS4, and jailbreaking has allowed 60 FPS on PlayStation 4 for several years. Officially, the game remains locked to 30 FPS on PlayStation hardware.

Digital Foundry described an upcoming mod by a modder known as Christina that unlocks a consistent 120 FPS on jailbroken PlayStation 5s. The frame-rate unlock patch lets Bloodborne take advantage of the PS5’s 120Hz mode at 1080p.

Digital Foundry also notes that raising the native rendering resolution to full 4K forces a 30 FPS lock. The mod isn’t available yet but is expected shortly, and it requires either a modded PS5 or an unpatched PS5 running firmware from pre-circa 2022. It again raises the question as to why Sony hasn’t released 60 FPS support (let alone 120 FPS) for the title on PlayStation 5 hardware.
