Minecraft Movie Squared revealed; Kirsten Dunst cast as Alex

Minecraft Movie 2 will be called Minecraft Movie Squared. The name was unveiled at Microsoft’s Minecraft Live event during TwitchCon 2026, and the sequel was confirmed for a July 23, 2027 release. The reveal included a first look at new cast members joining Jack Black on his latest block-smashing adventure.

The presentation hinted the crew will encounter new locations and mobs and be joined by additional characters. Matt Berry, who previously played Nitwit, will return as a new undisclosed character, and Kirsten Dunst will be playing Alex. Jared Hess returns to direct a script co-written by him and Chris Galletta, with Danielle Brooks and Jennifer Coolidge reprising their roles.

The Minecraft Movie Build Challenge offers fans a chance to have their personal builds appear in the movie or end credits; creations can be submitted via TikTok, Twitch, or Minecraft itself.
