Supergirl, the standalone DCU film starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, opens in theaters on Jun. 26, 2026, marking the heroine's return to the big screen after more than 40 years. Alcock's costume first appeared in James Gunn's Superman during a brief cameo alongside David Corenswet, and her full suit was later revealed in images and trailers for the solo film.

Fans and critics have praised the outfit as a faithful adaptation of the Woman of Tomorrow aesthetic. She revealed on the Raiders of the Lost podcast that the production incorporated roughly 16 meters of surviving fabric from Christopher Reeve's original 1978 Superman cape into her costume.

"My cape in this film was remade using material from the original Superman cape," Alcock said. "They found there was, like, 16 meters of that material, so yeah, that's in the back of my cape now." Reeve's performance in the 1978 film helped define the cinematic superhero, and he starred as Superman in four films between 1978 and 1987.
