Mickey Gooch Jr. surprised by Rebel Wilson memoir reading on Broadway

Comedian Mickey Gooch Jr., named in Rebel Wilson’s autobiography as the man she says she lost her virginity to at 35, was taken by surprise onstage during a recent Celebrity Autobiography performance at Broadway’s Shubert Theatre.

Kathy Griffin introduced Gooch and read from Wilson’s book, choosing the chapter titled “Late Bloomer,” which recounts their meetings and dates and includes the line about losing her virginity. Gooch, who had not been told he would be part of that reading, kept his composure, ad-libbed, punched the air and yelled “Ayyy!”

He called the moment “a pretty surreal way to make my Broadway debut” and quipped, “I guess I popped my Broadway cherry, literally.” Wilson and Gooch dated for a few months in 2015 after meeting while working on the film How to Be Single and split amicably in September 2016.

Wilson is now married to jewelry designer Ramona Agruma; they became engaged in February 2023, wed in September 2024 in Italy and are parents to two daughters.
