Michael Tops Digital Charts After Nearly $891M at the Box Office
After its digital debut on June 9, the Michael biopic climbed to the top of the Apple TV store and Amazon Prime Video charts, per FlixPatrol, placing ahead of hits such as Project Hail Mary and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The film opened in theaters on April 24 and grossed almost $40 million on its first day, marking the biggest opening day ever for a biographical film and surpassing Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer.
It passed the $97 million mark over opening weekend, cooled in its second weekend, and sits close to the $891 million mark overall. It is the year’s second-highest-grossing movie, behind The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which has reached $1 billion, and could approach the record set by Bohemian Rhapsody at $910.8 million.
Despite still playing in some theaters six weeks after release, Lionsgate moved quickly to make Michael available for rent or purchase on platforms like Apple TV and Prime Video, with UHD prices ranging from $19.99 to $24.99.
