Michael Fassbender will star in Hope, a South Korean sci-fi thriller described as an alien monster mash-up, which has secured a U.S. theatrical release date of September 9. The film, acquired for U.S. distribution by NEON, premiered in competition at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, earning strong reviews and a seven-minute standing ovation.

Set in the remote village of Hope Harbour near the Korean Demilitarized Zone, Hope follows a community terrorized by a mysterious creature first believed to be a tiger. As local authorities investigate, they uncover a far more terrifying truth: the village is under attack by alien predators portrayed by Fassbender and his wife, Alicia Vikander.

Written and directed by Na Hong-jin, the filmmaker behind The Wailing, the project became the highest-grossing overseas pre-sales title ever for a Korean film and secured sales in more than 200 territories, recouping roughly half of its production budget.
