Meta has struck its first AI infrastructure partnership in India, teaming up with Reliance Industries to lease capacity at a 168-megawatt AI-enabled data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The deal, announced Wednesday, expands a relationship that began with Meta’s $5.7 billion investment in Jio Platforms in 2020 and a $100 million joint venture launched last year to build enterprise AI solutions.

Reliance said the Jamnagar facility will be powered by renewable energy, cooled with desalinated seawater and ready within two years, with room to expand. Meta has agreed to cover the energy and water costs for its operations and expects the site to support its global infrastructure and AI computing needs.

As part of the agreement, Reliance will offer end-to-end services from design and construction to renewable power, connectivity and operations.
