Lionel Messi has been given a private room for the duration of Argentina's 2026 World Cup camp in Kansas City as he prepares to lead the nation in a record-breaking sixth tournament. The Inter Miami forward is staying alone in room 202, next door to friends Rodrigo De Paul and Nicolas Otamendi.

He previously shared with Sergio Aguero until the former Manchester City forward retired and had also requested to room alone during the successful 2022 campaign. There have been minor fitness concerns after Messi was withdrawn in May during Inter Miami's 6-4 win over the Philadelphia Union, with the club saying he asked to be substituted because of "muscle fatigue in his left hamstring." Head coach Lionel Scaloni said the medical reports were not "too bad," and the veteran was seen training on his own away from the main group on Monday.

Argentina were drawn in Group J alongside Algeria, Austria and tournament debutants Jordan.
