Melissa Joan Hart was originally eyed for the 'Scary Movie' role
Marlon and Shawn Wayans told Anna Faris during a promotion for Scary Movie 6 that Melissa Joan Hart had been considered for the role of Cindy Campbell. “She was supposed to play Anna’s part,” Marlon said, and a surprised Faris replied, “I didn’t know this. She’s good!”
The brothers said their co-creator Keenan Wayans was so impressed with Faris that he suggested giving her the part instead. Marlon joked, “So you took Melissa Joan Hart’s job. Good job Anna!” and Shawn added, “We see the way you do it.” Faris responded, “I didn’t. I’m not… I’m not trying to take food out of anyone’s mouth!”
Marlon called the exchange “white on white crime” but said he would never deny her the role because she’s “the star of the movie.” Faris replied, “Yeah, but barely. Only because I work for free.” Shawn teased that working for free was a point of pride, Marlon quipped, “Who needs self-esteem? It’s overrated,” and Faris answered, “It is? Thank goodness!”
