Mega Staraptor's Contrary Ability Turns It Into a Menace

Pokémon Champions received its first major update, and Mega Staraptor has joined the roster. Staraptor gained a Mega Evolution in Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s Mega Dimension DLC, but that release omitted Abilities, so the transformation did not have one until now. Mega Staraptor gets Contrary, which reverses stat buffs and debuffs.

Attacks that would lower its stats instead boost them, letting moves with drawbacks become sources of repeated upgrades. The Mega form also swaps its base normal/flying typing for fighting/flying, so Close Combat—already a staple in its moveset—hits harder and, thanks to Contrary, increases its defenses instead of leaving it frail.

Players have already demonstrated how potent the combination can be, including clips of it one‑shotting a Chople Berry Kingambit. In one doubles match, an opponent used Incineroar's Parting Shot on Mega Staraptor, activating Contrary and further raising its attack after several Close Combats.
