Meet the Minions Ahead of Minions & Monsters

Illumination’s Minions & Monsters, the third prequel in the Minions spin-off franchise, opens exclusively in theaters on July 1, 2026. Set in the Golden Age of Hollywood during the 1920s, a new tribe of ancestral Minions sets out to find their next evil overlord and instead becomes early cinema stars.

Two of those Minions, James and Henry, stand apart because they fall in love with the pictures and dream of making movies. After the group is fired for failing to deliver intelligible dialogue, James and Henry take a spell book from an old boss and summon fearsome monsters to play the villains in their film.

"When things go haywire, James, Henry, and all their buddies must work together to save the world from a band of rampaging monsters." The film was written by Brian Lynch and Pierre Coffin, produced by Chris Meledandri and Bill Ryan, and features Coffin continuing to voice all of the Minions.
