Scott McTominay says he and team-mate Billy Gilmour have been relentlessly reminding Napoli striker Rasmus Hojlund of the overhead kick that sent Scotland to the 2026 World Cup and knocked Denmark out. "I know Rasmus extremely well. He's such a great kid, and we have so many good jokes and stuff at the training ground.

But he can't watch the overhead kick anymore," McTominay said. "Oh, that's light. We stuck every picture from that game up on his locker, me and Billy." The strike has become part of Scotland's cultural landscape: the Bank of Scotland put the image on a limited edition £20 note and a large mural looks over Hampden Park.

McTominay said he felt grateful yet slightly bemused to see his image so prominent. "I'm extremely grateful for it... but yeah, my big head up on the side of a building is something that's a little bit surreal to me," he added.
